The village of Llanwrtyd Wells, Wales, hosts the world champion bog snorkelling competition. With over 90 competitors from around the world including Australia and Russia. A 60 yard long and four feet deep trench has been cut though a dense peat bog. Equipped with snorkel and flipper, entrants completed two lengths of the course. The contestants are not allowed to use normal strokes and the standard is a doggy paddle. Philip John from South Wales took the title in a time of 1 minute 45 seconds and held of the concerted challenges from the other competitors. As silly as the whole thing is its actually very hard work mainly because you canﺃ√ﻗ°ﺂt breath very well though the snorkel and after the first go its impossible to see a thing. The Championships came about in 1986 as local pub revellers were engaged in a brainstorm for a local charity fundraising initiative, and in a last ditch attempt to come up with something quirky, suggested bog snorkelling. Last year all the funds raised from the Championships are being donated to the Mid Wales division of the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Trust.
