Many Spanish towns celebrate Moros y Cristianos, an annual festival in which mock battles commemorate the struggles between the Muslims and Christians in Spain in the period of the Reconquista (between the 8th and 15th Centuries). The largest events take place in the Valencian city of Alcoy.
