His Danish mother and Israeli father had travelled extensively in their youth, and as soon as he finished his military service in Israel, where he was brought up, Yadid followed in their footsteps. He has barely stopped travelling since.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertharding.com\/results.php?Search=749\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Carnival parade at the Sambodrome, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, South America\" src=\"http:\/\/www.robertharding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/749-1102.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"321\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertharding.com\/results.php?Search=799-628\" target=\"_blank\"><!--more--><\/a> \u00a9\u00a0Yadid Levy<\/p>\n<p>Looking back however, Yadid explains that photography had not been part of the family tradition. \u201cI grew up hearing a lot of travel stories but there were hardly any pictures to accompany them,\u201d he says. \u201cMy parents always told me that the best images are in their head and for them, that was enough.\u201d It wasn\u2019t until the age of 19 \u2013 when Yadid\u2019s father, a tourist guide, offered him an old Canon camera that a client had given him \u2013 that he began taking photos.<\/p>\n<p>After traveling for six months around Europe, Yadid was planning to start at university but instead found himself on the way to India, and it was there that he first started taking pictures with the idea of creating travel and documentary features. He pitched them to magazines, and slowly but surely his business grew. After two or three years he began to make a living out of it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertharding.com\/results.php?Search=749\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Old man walking in a typical street in Chefchaouen, Rif mountains region, Morocco, North Africa, Africa\" src=\"http:\/\/www.robertharding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/749-919.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"321\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n\u00a9\u00a0Yadid Levy<\/p>\n<p>Despite having travelled to around 80 countries, and lived in several, India remains one of his enduring favourites. \u201cThere is the world and then there is India and you can&#8217;t compare it to any other place,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s like getting into another world full of colours and events with not a single dull moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertharding.com\/results.php?Search=749\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Peppers at Sao Joaquim market, Salvador (Salvador de Bahia), Bahia, Brazil, South America\" src=\"http:\/\/www.robertharding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/749-1205.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"321\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n\u00a9\u00a0Yadid Levy<\/p>\n<p>Yadid, who has recently relocated from Argentina back to Israel, believes a photographer should \u2018just go out there and shoot and not be shy about making contact with locals\u2019. \u201cA smile goes a long way and locals can have great tips about the place that you are shooting,\u201d he says. He loves photographing people, believing that they make the character of a place, but also has a passion for shooting food, since cooking is one of his favourite hobbies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertharding.com\/results.php?Search=749\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1757\" alt=\"Buddhist monks watching the Indian Ocean, Colombo, island of Sri Lanka, Asia\" src=\"http:\/\/www.robertharding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/749-249.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.robertharding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/749-249.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.robertharding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/749-249-368x245.jpg 368w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n\u00a9\u00a0Yadid Levy<\/p>\n<p>The life of a travel photographer may be rewarding, but it is tough too. \u201cIt&#8217;s not an easy market and you are going to hear a lot of no\u2019s,\u201d says Yadid. When asked his advice to wannabe travel photographers, he says:\u00a0\u201cIn order to succeed\u00a0it\u2019s not enough just to be able to take good pictures,\u00a0you also need to be a good sales person and know how to market yourself. Put an effort into this, and believe in yourself. If you really love it and want to make it as a photographer just keep on trying and love what you do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertharding.com\/results.php?Search=749\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Horseback riding, Patagonia, Argentina, South America\" src=\"http:\/\/www.robertharding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/749-1580.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"321\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n\u00a9\u00a0Yadid Levy<\/p>\n<p>Looking back, travel has not only made Yadid\u2019s photography career, but has changed his life in other ways. He recalls a moment during his first visit to Buenos Aires, when, wandering around the trendy Palermo neighbourhood, he passed by a girl outside a restaurant who caught his eye.\u00a0They started chatting and arranged to go on a date the next day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe met at a pub and two hours later I knew she was the woman I had been looking for all my life,\u201d he says. \u201cIt took me a few phone calls to convince her to go for a second date, but after that she fell for me, and the rest is history.\u201d The couple eventually married and, in keeping with the spirit of Yadid\u2019s multinational, travel loving parents, have been sharing their time between Buenos Aires, Copenhagen and Israel ever since.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertharding.com\/results.php?Search=749\" target=\"_blank\">See more of Yadid&#8217;s work here<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A chat with Yadid Levy Copenhagen-born Yadid Levy\u2019s colourful, lively photographs reflect a wanderlust that was passed down to him by his parents.
