We chatted to the talented British\u00a0photographer about his varied and fascinating\u00a0career.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertharding.com\/preview\/848-1062\/palio-di-asti-asti-piedmont-italy-europe\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7000 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/embed.robertharding.com\/embed\/848-10621.jpg\" alt=\"Palio di Asti, Asti, Piedmont, Italy, Europe\" width=\"480\" height=\"321\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Palio di Asti, Piedmont, Italy, Europe<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where are you from and where do you live?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m from Weymouth, Dorset, and now live in London<\/p>\n<p><strong>How long have you been a professional photographer?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I started working as a professional photographer at a makeover studio while studying at art college back in 2003, and went freelance on my own after graduating in 2006.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertharding.com\/preview\/848-730\/dancers-traditional-dress-fiesta-de-la-virgen-de\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6988 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/embed.robertharding.com\/embed\/848-7301.jpg\" alt=\"Dancers in traditional dress, Fiesta de la Virgen de la Candelaria, Copacabana, Lake Titicaca, Bolivia, South America\" width=\"480\" height=\"312\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dancers at\u00a0Fiesta de la Virgen de la Candelaria, Copacabana, Lake Titicaca, Bolivia, South America<\/p>\n<p><strong>How did you first get into photography?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My Uncle, David Noton, is a pro photographer and I grew up with his posters and prints on the walls at home, I was always into art and drawing before starting photography at 15.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where are you now and what are you shooting, or what is your next big trip?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Currently in London, its been a busy year for travel and my next trip is probably going to be Vietnam in late December and then I\u2019ll carry on into China for 6 weeks in January\/February.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertharding.com\/preview\/848-1043\/view-victoria-peak-central-hong-kong-island-china\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6998 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/embed.robertharding.com\/embed\/848-10431.jpg\" alt=\"View from Victoria Peak, Central, Hong Kong Island, China, Asia\" width=\"480\" height=\"321\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>View from Victoria Peak, Central, Hong Kong Island, China<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are your favourite destinations and subjects to photograph and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve pretty much enjoyed photographing every place I\u2019ve been, the variety of different places keeps photography exciting. Nepal was a special trip \u2013 the people and places were so beautiful, I\u2019d like to return and explore the lesser known areas of the country sometime.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How would you describe your style?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I tend to work at the start and end of the day, I like working with shallow depth of field, shooting in a reportage style, and I tend to favour monochromatic images.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertharding.com\/preview\/848-901\/holi-festival-celebrations-mathura-braj-uttar-pradesh-india\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6994 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/embed.robertharding.com\/embed\/848-9011.jpg\" alt=\"Holi Festival Celebrations in Mathura, Braj, Uttar Pradesh, India, Asia\" width=\"480\" height=\"342\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Holi Festival Celebrations in Mathura, Braj, Uttar Pradesh, India<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can you recall a favourite experience on your travels?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My favourite experiences have been when I\u2019ve been reminded of the universal goodness in people \u2013 being shown hospitality and welcome in far flung corners of the world. In the Thar Desert of Rajasthan I\u2019d ridden a motorbike out there and the vibrations of the journey had caused my tripod head to rattle loose, so as I walked out to the dunes it fell off. I didn\u2019t notice until I got to the dune I wanted to shoot and began to set my equipment up. Then in the distance a man with a camel appeared gesturing to me \u2013 he\u2019d found the tripod head and was bringing it over! Saved my bacon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertharding.com\/preview\/848-1021\/fire-wave-valley-fire-state-park-nevada-united\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6997 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/embed.robertharding.com\/embed\/848-10211.jpg\" alt=\"The Fire Wave, Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada, United States of America, North America\" width=\"480\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Fire Wave, Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada, United States of America<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can you recall a particularly challenging experience while taking photos\/travelling?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dealing with bad weather \u2013 you dream about a destination for months beforehand and then nature doesn\u2019t co-operate, sometimes its hard to stay positive when the rain is beating down. Also, getting ill when you\u2019re travelling alone is no fun at all, I visited Varanasi at the end of my first India trip and fell ill, times like that you wish you had your friend or partner alongside.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertharding.com\/preview\/848-925\/harmandir-sahib-golden-temple-amritsar-punjab-india-asia\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6996 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/embed.robertharding.com\/embed\/848-9251.jpg\" alt=\"Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple), Amritsar, Punjab, India, Asia\" width=\"480\" height=\"321\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple), Amritsar, Punjab, India<\/p>\n<p><strong>What cameras and equipment do you use? Do you have a favourite piece of equipment?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nikon D810 and D800E, (the Sigma 35mm f\/1.4 is my favourite piece). Many people rush to get their camera out and believe that by taking many shots they are bound to get a good one but this mindset couldn\u2019t be further from the truth. I would love to visit Papua New Guinea next year.
