Along its pristine beach, one of the longest in West Africa, fishermen launch dugout canoes and fish with nets drag back manually from the shore. Larger power boats mainly from Ghana leave from the more sheltered harbour on the Moa River. Most of the fish is smoke dried by the women of the village and then sold in markets as far off as Monrovia, Liberia.

His body was put on public display in the laundry room of the Vallegrande hospital, then secretly buried under the air strip for 30 years. Guevara and fellow communist guerillas were attempting to launch a continent-wide revolution modeled on Guevara's success in Cuba in the late 1950s. The Bolivian government recently began promoting the area where he fought, was captured, killed and burried for 30 years as the "Ruta del Che," or Che's Route.

There is still a lot of wildlife here but a sizable settlement is appearing around the visitor centre with large scale use of the river as laundry, rubbish dump etc. If laws are not enforced they have no value.
