A wind power installation towers over the Shell-DEA oil refinery plant near the town of Heide in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. Situated between Germany's two coastlines, the northern state has invested heavily in new, renewable energies. In 2005, there were 2.595 wind turbines in Schleswig-Holstein, generating over 30% of the state's energy. Wind power accounts for 6,7% of Germany's overall energy needs.
