Scottish photographer Karen Deakin recently shot these amazing portraits of mountain hares in her native Scotland. The species are adapted to life in highland landscapes, and Karen perfectly captures the characterful animals against the bleak, snowy conditions in which they live, with her typical eye for bold, uncluttered compositions.

“I have a passion for travelling and have been fortunate to explore some wonderful destinations throughout the world,” Karen says. “Despite travelling widely, I love to photograph Scotland best, my home.” Her advice to other photographers is: “..enjoy it – sometimes the most wonderful scenes will unfold in front of you and whilst it is nice to capture it in camera, don’t forget to step away from the camera and just enjoy the moment.”
