Bali has some of the most natural and man-made beauty in the world and when our contributing Photographer and Videographer, Frank Fell visited in March, he found the best way to get around was by hiring a taxi and driver by the day.

Frank admitted, had he been younger, braver and carrying less equipment, hiring a moped would have been cheaper and more flexible, but having an air-conditioned car and a friendly knowledgeable driver, called Teddy, getting around was much more enjoyable and relaxing between stops.

The most memorable day was being picked up at 4 am at the Hard Rock Hotel in Kuta and heading out of town before the streets had aired, up to the Ulun Danu Beratan temple on Lake Brata, seeing the sunrise behind the volcanoes, stopping at a roadside cafe for some ‘rice cakes’, then heading to the amazing Sidemen Rice Terrace, something he had always wanted to photograph.

On another day, he visited Melanting Waterfall, Ubud monkey sanctuary and Tegallalang Rice Terrace, all with no time limits and never used by his driver. Both days included pick up and drop off, snacks and drinks, stress-free travel and shortcuts included, at a price he had paid just for car hire for the day in some countries. Needless to say, he found the Balinese among the friendliest people on the planet and seemed to have a smile on his face the whole time of what he considered his best shoot to date!
