The mention of drones may conjure up visions of sinister military operations, but a new range of consumer models mean that they are starting to be associated with more peaceful pursuits, including filming stunning aerial footage. Some of these new techie toys include built in cameras while others have mounts onto which you can put your own gear – and they start at a mere $100.

Check out this video in which Eric Cheng uses a drone to film surfers in Santa Cruz, California. The footage was taken with a DJI Phantom quadcopter, GoPro HERO3 Black edition camera, Rotorpixel HERO3 gimbal, ReadyMadeRC FPV transmitter, receiver, and remote monitor, and modified DJI Phantom radio.
